RECENT AWARDS: 2025 and 2024

"Puffin Profile No. 2" received the 1st place award and "December's Lifeguard" received the 3rd place award in Sanctuary Studio's April 2025 fundraising exhibit in Flintstone, Maryland. The show, which benefited the Vine Animal Sanctuary, was sponsored by the Allegany Area Arts Alliance.

In May 2025, "Tools of the Trade" received an Honorable Mention award in the 2025 Black-and-White photography competition sponsored by the Maryland Photography Alliance (MPA). The show,  juried by professional photographer Ian Plant, received 650 entries.

Two images, "Going Up" and "Topography of a Truck", received Honorable Mention awards in the Frederick Camera Clique's annual show, juried this year by professional photographer Tony Sweet. A third image, "Forward Thinking", was also accepted in the digital show, now accessible through the Camera Clique's website.

My black-and-white image, "Organic Architecture, Native American Museum", was juried into the Architecture competition sponsored by the Southeast Center for Photography in Greenville, South Carolina. The digital gallery of selected photographs was available through the Center's website.

"Mercedes Bends", a 5"x4" metal print, was accepted and later sold during the Teeny Tiny Multi-Media Art Show sponsored by the Allegany Arts Council in Cumberland. The show was on display at the Hazen Gallery on the campus of Allegany County College of Maryland.

Two metal prints, "Pond Poetry" and "Habana Textures" were juried into the 2025 Cumberland Valley photography competition sponsored by Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, Maryland. The show is on display at the Museum through July 27, 2025.

The Maryland Photography Alliance, an association of 22 camera clubs in the region, recognized two of my images, "Chevy CL Senescence" and "Chevelle Abstract" with Honorable Mention awards during its 8th annual juried show in November. The competition attracted more than 1,200 entries in four categories. The two prints were displayed at the State of Maryland House of Delegates in Annapolis in January 2025.

"Punctuations" received the 1st Place award in the 2024 Membership Exhibition of the Allegany Arts Council. The multi-media show was held at the Lyric Theatre in Frostburg, Maryland, in November 2024.
Museum Print Receives 1st Place Award in Two Shows
"Organic Architecture, Native American Museum", received the 1st Place award in the Architectural Category of the Maryland Photography Alliance's 7th annual photography contest in the Fall of 2023. Overall, 933 images were submitted for consideration in four categories. The print also won 1st Place in the Monochrome Category of the Frederick Camera Clique's 36th annual juried exhibit in July 2022.

Literary Magazine Spotlights Monochrome Photos
In the spring of 2021, I was the featured photographer in the 2021 Backbone Mountain Review, an annual literary journal showcasing the creative diversity of people within the Appalachian Mid-Atlantic region. The publication includes 12 of my black-and-white images, including the cover photo, "Glade Creek Mill".

"Step Into My World" Receives People's Choice Award
"Step Into My World" was voted as the "People's Choice" at the annual Cumberland Valley Photographic Exhibit held at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD in 2021. Two other photos -- "Naxos Potter Yia Yia" and "Design and Decay - Monochrome" -- were also accepted for the exhibit.

Three Images Recognized in Art in Nature Show
The jurors for the annual Art in Nature Exhibit presented a 3rd Place Award to my image "Cheesemonger, Apeiranthos, Greece" and Honorable Mention Awards to "Naxos Potter Yia Yia" and "Cascade of Life". The July 2020 online show was sponsored by the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art at Salisbury University.

"Silence & Storm" Named BetterPhoto.com All-Time Staff Favorite
My image entitled "Silence & Storm - Doolin, Ireland" earned the status of "All-Time Staff Favorite" in BetterPhoto.com's 20th Anniversary All-Time Best Contest. More than 16,000 photos were evaluated in the international contest. You also can view the photo in the "Magical Places" gallery of this website.

E-Greeting Card Site Interviews Martin
Harmony Wishes, an electronic greeting card website for fine art photography, selected more than a dozen of my images for its gallery of customizable e-cards. Megan Matlach, the owner of the site, interviewed me for a posting on the HarmonyWishes blog and issued a news release about my photography.

Martin Serves as Judge for Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts
The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts invited me to be a juror for its 2014 Sidewalk Sale and Exhibition. The Festival attracted hundreds of multi-media artists and at least 100,000 visitors to State College, PA.

Martin's black-and-white work was featured on the cover and throughout the 2021 edition of the Backbone Mountain Review, an annual literary journal.
